EMTB Forums verdict

The Specialized Levo Alloy 2026 (the aluminium variant of the Levo Gen 4 platform) is the brand's mainstream full-power trail eMTB. Headline numbers: 160mm fork, 150mm rear, Specialized 3.1 motor at 105Nm with a 810W peak (post-OTA tune; 666W and 101Nm standard) and a 3.15kg motor mass, a side-load removable 840Wh M50 battery, 64.5 degree head angle and reach 407 to 535mm across six S-series sizes (S1 to S6), mullet 29/27.5 wheel layout and a 12-position adjustable geometry system. The Levo platform has the strongest forum signal of any eMTB on sale: @Idlefrog rates the Levo 4 motor at "10% more powerful" than Bosch Gen 4 (666W vs 600W) with a "12% larger" 840Wh vs 750Wh battery.

Drive system and range. The Specialized 3.1 motor is the brand's full-power flagship: 101Nm/666W standard, lifted to 111Nm/720W on S-Works and 105Nm/810W peak post-OTA firmware update. The 840Wh M50 battery is removable (side-load) and supports a 280Wh range extender. Mission Control app integration is mature, with Smart Control auto-tuning ride duration to battery percentage, Dynamic MicroTune electronic mode and Class 1/Class 3 toggle. @Mikerb, a 75-year-old rider on a 2025 Levo Comp Gen 3, reports a 25-mile/1,800ft country ride finishing with 50% battery remaining (Eco 40/60, Trail 70/100, Turbo 100/100 settings).

Geometry and handling. 64.5 degrees up front in stock setting, adjustable from 63.5 to 65.5 degrees via offset headset cups. Reach steps cleanly: 407 (S1), 435 (S2), 455 (S3), 480 (S4), 505 (S5), 535 (S6). Chainstays are 435mm short with the Horst-link flip chip set to short, or 444mm long with the chip flipped: Specialized has now decoupled chainstay length from BB height, a meaningful upgrade over Gen 3. BB height drops 6mm in the shock-mount low position. Three independent adjustments give 12 combined settings. Wheelbase tops out at 1323mm on S6. Mullet 29/27.5 is standard.

Build and value. The gold spec lists no trims; Specialized historically prices the Levo Alloy from approximately GBP 5,800 (Comp Alloy) up to GBP 8,000 (Expert Alloy). Build kit pairs a RockShox or Fox 36-class fork with the Fox Genie shock (a new e-bike specific Fox unit), SRAM Eagle 70 or GX AXS Transmission and SRAM DB8 or Code-tier four-piston brakes. The SWAT downtube storage with magnetic pouch is a Specialized exclusive. Standout: full-power 105Nm motor, 840Wh battery, 12-point geometry adjustment and SWAT storage on an aluminium chassis. Questionable: the alloy frame is heavier than the carbon Levo (Gen 4 alloy typically lands at 24kg system weight vs 22kg for carbon).

Community-verified strengths.

  • Motor and battery class-leadership. @Idlefrog documents the 666W/840Wh advantage vs Bosch Gen 4.
  • Real-world range. @Mikerb's 25-mile/1,800ft ride at 50% remaining demonstrates the 840Wh's reach with disciplined mode mapping.
  • Affordable suspension tuning. @Ou812 reports a USD 70 Evo link gives 13% progression vs Cascade link's 30% at USD 370, with the Levo 4 platform supporting 230x62.5mm shock geometry.
  • Price reduction. @Zimmerframe reports the Levo R S-Works MSRP cut from USD 15,650 to USD 11,500 in the US/Canada; the alloy trims are expected to see comparable softening.

Caveats and known gripes.

  • Weight on alloy. @Jeff McD reports a stock 2024 Levo Comp Gen 4 alloy S frame at 54.2lb (24.6kg); the carbon Gen 4 typically lands 1.5 to 2kg lighter.
  • Six S-series sizes confuse buyers. S1 through S6 maps roughly to XXS through XXL but pencil-and-paper conversion is essential; confirm reach against your existing bike.
  • Mullet only. 29/27.5 is fixed; full 29in is not an option without aftermarket conversion (S1 supports 150mm fork only).
  • SRAM Eagle 70 mechanical at entry trims. AXS Transmission is reserved for higher trims; mechanical T-Type is the entry-level spec.
  • Push long-shock kit unavailable. @FirstAscent notes Push does not make a long-shock kit for the Levo; tuners chasing aftermarket shock options have a narrower path than on rivals.
  • Specialized 3.1 motor maturity. The 3.1 is newer than the well-mapped Bosch CX Gen 5; long-term reliability data is still maturing.

Verdict. The 2026 Levo Alloy is the most polished full-power trail eMTB on sale at the alloy price point, with the Specialized 3.1 motor, 840Wh removable battery, SWAT storage, 12-point geometry adjustment and a six-size range that fits riders from 1.55m to 2.00m. It suits riders who want Specialized's mature ecosystem and the world's deepest forum knowledge base behind them. Buyers chasing the lightest possible system weight, the most powerful motor (DJI Avinox M2S at 150Nm), or a more aggressive 170mm-plus enduro envelope should look at the Specialized Kenevo, Olympia Hekton or Crussis E-Full 12. Production status: current.

“As a Gen 3 owner, I refuse to drink the Specialized Kool-Aid. There's nothing “Super” about the Gen 4. It’s overhyped, overweight and late to the party. Pretty disappointing, to be honest. I’ll keep my current pimped-out Levo with its…”
